Our mission

With the International Biology Olympiad 2028 we aim to bring together the best high school biology students in the world for a friendly, interesting and challenging week of biology. The olympiad is as much a competition as it is a social and cultural event. Winning medals is rewarding, but the friendships that are formed and the experiences gained can leave a lasting impression on the participants.

The Biology Olympiad stimulates critical thinking, scientific curiosity, and problem-solving skills in biological context. Through national and international competitions, we encourage secondary school students worldwide to pursue careers in biological research, medicine, and environmental science. Their passion will lead to innovations needed to address global challenges such as healthcare, sustainability, and climate change.

In IBO 2028 we strive for a healthy, sustainable, diverse, and modern event. We will:

• Provide a comfortable environment, good food and plenty of exercise and relaxation for the physical and mental health of our guests.
• Use as few resources as possible and recyclable materials when possible.
• Be attentive to the different needs of our guests and show the diversity and openness that the Netherlands has to offer.
• Push the boundaries of what the olympiad stands for and showcase modern biology in a world that requires constant adaptation and change.
